Meet asher

Asher has impeccable ground manners and is a pleasure to handle in just about any environment. He is courteous and sensible whether you unload him at home, at an arena, or somewhere new with a lot going on around him.

He loads easily into a variety of trailers, including stock and slant loads, and travels quietly and well down the road.

Asher is wonderful with other horses and fits easily into a herd. He doesn’t cause problems and is a kind, easygoing pasture companion. He has even taken a 7-month-old filly under his wing, and she follows him everywhere like he is her big brother. He is usually the first one to be caught and is equally content spending time in his pen. He is simply a happy, good-natured horse.

He clips, bathes, grooms, and tacks up easily. He is easy to fly spray, stands quietly when tied, and is good for the farrier. He is currently shod because of the amount of riding he does in the mountains, but he can also go barefoot.

Asher has no known medical issues or vices.

Under saddle, he is the kind of horse who genuinely tries his heart out. Whether in the arena or out on the trail, he is willing, confident, and capable. He is independent enough to be ridden and hauled alone, which is something I do with him regularly.

Asher is also genuinely fit and mountain-ready. I have put approximately 1,000 miles on him in the Rocky Mountains this summer alone, so he is not a horse who has just been lightly trail ridden. He has real miles, real conditioning, and extensive experience covering mountain terrain.

Most importantly, I feel safe on Asher and I feel safe around him. He is a trustworthy, sensible horse with a wonderful temperament and a lot to offer his next person.

Asher has extensive trail experience in both the deserts of New Mexico and the mountains of Colorado. He has shared the trails of the San Juan Mountains with hikers, bicyclists, trail runners, cattle, and wildlife, and he handles the activity with confidence and common sense.

He has crossed downed trees, bridges, rivers, streams, ditches, and other natural obstacles. He has encountered bears and cattle in the high country and has taken it all completely in stride.

Asher is an accomplished and fit mountain horse. He has completed rides of up to approximately 20 miles round trip with as much as 2,500 feet of elevation gain. With his long legs, negotiating obstacles and rough terrain comes easily to him. I have put approximately 1,000 miles on him in the Rocky Mountains this summer, so he is conditioned, experienced, and mountain-ready.

We have been caught in rain and hail at high elevations, and Asher has remained safe, sensible, and agreeable even in poor weather. You can easily put on a rain slicker while mounted, eat your lunch, apply bug spray, or adjust your gear, and Asher doesn’t mind a bit.

He is equally comfortable riding solo or with other horses. If another rider gets far ahead on the trail, Asher remains calm and continues to listen to his rider rather than becoming anxious or herd-bound.

Asher stands tied like a true gentleman and will quietly wait tied to a tree while you stop for lunch. He does not rub on you while tied. He is also high-line trained and hobble trained.

He has been on numerous camping trips and settles into camp beautifully. He is quiet at night, well-mannered, and easy to manage away from home.

Asher is simply a solid, honest mountain horse — confident, capable, and the kind of horse you can feel safe on when the trail gets long, steep, remote, or unpredictable.

Asher is balanced, athletic, and enjoyable to ride in the arena. He walks, trots, and canters with lovely transitions, and his halt is exceptionally light. He performs shoulder-in very well and has a nice turn on the forehand. He is comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor arenas.

Asher attended a Manuel Trigo Working Equitation clinic, where he impressed me with both his ability and his attitude. He approached the obstacles confidently, and the Garrocha pole was a piece of cake for him.

After our private lesson, we participated in a group clinic with multiple horses, riders, obstacles, and plenty of activity around us. Asher was amazing. He stayed focused on me and simply ignored the other horses and the busy atmosphere.

What impressed me most was his patience and willingness. I was learning a different way of handling my reins and changing some of the way I had been riding. Even when my cues were not always perfectly clear, Asher continued to try wholeheartedly to figure out what I was asking. He was patient, kind, and incredibly forgiving. His attitude and willingness were so noticeable that the people watching the clinic were completely taken with him.

Asher also stayed overnight at the clinic barn, with unfamiliar horses on both sides of him and horses constantly coming and going. He handled the entire experience like a seasoned professional—calm, relaxed, and completely at ease.

Asher is athletic, intelligent, and highly trainable. He has the ability and temperament to continue in a number of different disciplines depending on what his next rider would like to pursue.

More than anything, Asher is truly full of heart. He wants to understand, he wants to please, and he genuinely tries for his rider.

He is simply lovely.

Asher is easy to harness and hook up, and he is a pleasure to drive.

A good driving horse needs two important qualities: confidence and the ability to listen carefully to the driver. Asher excels in both.

He is sensible, responsive, and steady in harness. I trust him so much that I have even ponied my 7-month-old filly alongside the cart. Despite the filly pulling, bouncing around, and being a typical youngster, Asher remained completely focused on his job. He continued on calmly and confidently and was absolutely amazing.

Asher is also traffic safe and has demonstrated that he can remain composed around vehicles and activity on the road.
